VJHPS CME Grand Rounds

The CME program is open to all medical staff including physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives and allied health providers at VJH and all surrounding communities including Salmon Arm and Revelstoke. Rounds are virtual via Zoom and run the second Thursday of every month from 8:00 to 9:00 AM.  Presentations are recorded and are available for viewing for those who miss the live event.

Peri-operative BNP/MINS protocol at VJH

1. Pre-operative BNP measurement is the most objective and accurate predictor of post-operative cardiac morbidity and mortality.
2. Post-operative Troponin monitoring is the most sensitive marker of MINS (myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery).  A patient with MINS post op has the same 30 day mortality rate as a patient who had a post operative MI.
3. The peri-operative team at VJH is in the process of implementing our own site specific BNP/MINS protocol, on par with our current national guidelines. 
4. During this presentation, we will look at WHO should be risk stratified pre-op, WHO qualifies for MINS monitoring post-op and HOW these patients should be referred on.
