Fragility Fracture Service Project

A QI project involving file review and data collection to develop an accurate understanding of the number of people who would benefit from a Fracture Liaison Service (FLS): a hospital-based service to prevent secondary fractures, that is supported by Osteoporosis Canada. This Project, a collaboration between Dr. Carmen Larsen and Dr. Charlie Secretan, will involve collecting basic patient case numbers from cast clinics over a four-week period. Dr. Charlie Secretan, as the orthopedic surgery liaison, will oversee data collection at cast clinics including basic information such as location of fracture and likelihood of osteoporosis as an underlying diagnosis. Success of the project will be determined by collecting enough examples of patients who would benefit from a Fracture Liaison Service (FLS), enabling this group to make an accurate proposal for a FLS, including budgetary needs.
